The Maoist launched the people's movement in 1995 but the Maoist PLA was officially formed 23 November 2001. This is the first time that Maoists are celebrating this anniversary in such an open manner, following the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of November 2006 and the first time that officials from the state security agencies have been invited to the programme. सर्वोच्च अदालतले १ फागुनमा जनयुद्ध दिवस मनाउने सरकारको निर्णय बदर गरेको छ । जनयुद्ध शब्दमा राष्ट्रिय सहमति बनिनसकेको र संक्रमणकालीन न्यायका काममा संलग्न संस्थाको भावी काममा समेत प्रभाव पर्नसक्ने सर्वोच्चको ठहर छ ।
प्रधानमन्त्री पुष्पकमल दाहाल प्रचण्ड नेतृत्वको मन्त्रिपरिषदले २९ माघ २०७९ मा १ फागुनमा जनयुद्ध दिवस मनाउने र सार्वजनिक बिदा दिने निर्णय गरेको थियो ।
